Karersee - Carezza

Karersee/Carezza just below the Rosengarten massif in the Eggental Valley

A holiday resort just next to the Lake Carezza

The little village of Karersee (1,620 metres a.s.l.) is every bit as charming as the eponymous fairytale lake that is an essential part of any holiday in the Eggental valley! Hiking, climbing, biking in the Carezza ski and hiking area, between pastures and forests, with breathtaking views and exciting tours; climbing between the nearby Rosengarten and Latemar massifs, exploring the Dolomites with their many fixed-rope routes and climbing tours; discovering the Karersee forest, walking the Labyrinth trail, zooming down the Carezza pistes or indulging in the rich colours of the mythical Lake Carezza. Then there is witnessing the Enrosadira, the alpenglow, as you watch the pale walls of the Dolomites turn a blazing red at sunset; or simply spending a day out in the city of Bolzano/Bozen. With its hotels, guest houses and holiday apartments, Karersee, a village of just 100 souls of the municipality of Welschnofen nestling at the very heart of the Dolomites World Heritage Site, offers its guests wonderful holiday experiences – to be treasured in the memory and in the heart.

Karersee: the facts

  • The holiday resort, which gives its name to the famously colourful Lake Carezza, nestles right below the Rosengarten and Latemar massifs in the Dolomites. Legendary – in every sense!
  • The Austrian Empress Sissi, the British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, the writer Agatha Christie, the Winnetou author Karl May, the playwright Arthur Schnitzler – all have been inspired by the enchanting atmosphere of Karersee!
  • The Grand Hotel Carezza was built here at the end of the 19th century, at an altitude of 1,630 metres – a genuinely pioneering project to which the Eggental valley owes its infrastructure. Find out more about the truly eventful history of the hotel here.
